The 2027 Lexus NX makes a big change: every announced powertrain is electrified. Buyers can choose the NX 350h self-charging hybrid or NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid, with a redesigned exterior, refined cabin and new Lexus technology. Lexus has not announced a conventional gasoline-only NX for the 2027 U.S. lineup.

Key numbers: Up to 40 combined MPG for the NX 350h FWD; up to 45 miles of electric driving range for the NX 450h+; preliminary net system output of 244 hp (NX 350h) or 324 hp (NX 450h+). All 2027 figures are Lexus manufacturer estimates or preliminary specifications—not final EPA ratings.

2027 Lexus NX fuel economy: every announced configuration

The table below uses manufacturer estimates from Lexus’s October 20, 2026 announcement. The PHEV gasoline MPG figures are not the same as an electricity-inclusive MPGe rating, and they do not capture fuel savings from plugging in regularly.

2027 configuration City MPG Highway MPG Combined MPG Electric range
NX 350h FWD 44 35 40 N / A
NX 350h AWD 42 34 38 N / A
NX 350h F SPORT AWD 41 34 38 N / A
NX 450h+ PHEV AWD 39 35 37 45 miles
NX 450h+ F SPORT PHEV AWD 38 34 36 45 miles

Lexus manufacturer-estimated figures; final EPA estimates, pricing and U.S. availability details may change.

The Lexus NX 350h is a conventional hybrid that can operate briefly on electricity under certain conditions, but it does not have a published plug-in-style electric driving range. The Lexus NX 450h+ is a plug-in hybrid offering a manufacturer-estimated 45 miles of electric driving range.

NX 350h vs. NX 450h+: which Lexus NX makes sense?

Choose NX 350h if you want everyday hybrid efficiency

The conventional hybrid automatically combines gasoline and electric power while you drive. There is no need to charge it from a wall outlet. The NX 350h FWD earns the highest announced combined fuel economy estimate in this lineup: 40 MPG.

Choose NX 450h+ if you can charge regularly

The plug-in hybrid can travel an estimated 45 miles using electricity alone under suitable conditions, then continue driving using its hybrid powertrain when the battery’s electric-only range is depleted. Real-world savings depend on charging frequency, electricity costs, fuel prices, driving conditions and vehicle configuration.

More horsepower without giving up hybrid driving

The redesigned NX 350h offers a preliminary 244 hp of total net hybrid system output, compared with 240 hp for the 2026 NX 350h. The NX 450h+ rises to a preliminary 324 hp, compared with 304 hp for the 2026 model. These are combined system ratings—not individual electric motor outputs added together.

Plug-in charging: what is new for the NX 450h+?

The 2027 NX 450h+ adds a North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging connection and standard DC fast-charging capability. Under ideal conditions, Lexus estimates approximately 2.5 hours to charge from 10% to 100% on suitable 240V AC equipment, or approximately 35 minutes from 10% to 80% at a compatible 50-kW DC charger. Actual times depend on battery temperature, charger performance, state of charge and other factors.

Four grades, two electrified powertrains

The NX lineup is simplified around Premium, Premium+, F SPORT, and Luxury grades. Both the NX 350h and NX 450h+ are offered across these grade families. The NX 350h offers FWD on select grades and available AWD, while the NX 450h+ uses AWD. Grade-by-grade equipment and final specifications should be confirmed at ordering.

New look: sharper design and signature Lexus details

The 2027 NX features updated headlights and a new rear lighting signature, along with revised trim and a more cohesive appearance. New exterior color choices include Shaded Ivy; Incognito joins the NX range exclusively for F SPORT, while Iridium replaces Atomic Silver.

A more luxurious NX cabin

Every announced 2027 NX includes a standard 14-inch multimedia touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital driver display. The refreshed cabin adds a redesigned steering wheel, revised controls, and upgraded Lexus Interface technology. Luxury and F SPORT grades introduce the new Sensory Concierge feature, coordinating certain lighting, audio, climate and fragrance settings for different moods.

Safety and connected technology

Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 is standard across the 2027 NX range. The updated system is designed to assist the driver through advanced detection and driver-assistance features, but it cannot replace attentive driving. The NX also offers a standard integrated drive recorder and Digital Key 2.0 capability; compatible devices and trial or subscription requirements apply to certain connected services.

Will the 2027 Lexus NX actually save you money?

The best choice depends on your daily mileage and access to charging. A hybrid buyer can benefit from strong gasoline fuel economy without changing driving habits. A plug-in hybrid buyer who charges at home or work may cover many daily trips on electricity—but should compare electricity rates with gasoline prices to understand total energy costs. Purchase price, depreciation, insurance and available programs also affect the real cost of ownership.
