Lexus vs. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi & More: 5-Year Depreciation Calculator

Wondering how well your next luxury vehicle may hold its value? Select a Lexus from the UX, NX, RX, TX, GX, LX, IS, LS or LC lineup, choose a competing brand, and explore the difference between the purchase price and projected resale value. Compare More Than Just Resale Value

Explore how Lexus compares with other brands in fuel efficiency, performance, warranty coverage, and towing capability.

How to Compare Depreciation Fairly

Two vehicles with the same resale-value percentage can lose very different amounts in dollars if their purchase prices differ. Enter the actual prices you’re considering and compare the dollar value lost, not just percentages. Vehicle age, mileage, condition, options, regional demand, and market fluctuations all affect actual resale value.

Examples From Published Resale-Value Research

Independent research offers useful reference points. iSeeCars estimates five-year retained value of approximately 68.8% for Lexus NX 350, 52.3% for BMW X1, and 53.6% for Genesis GV70. These are broad historical model-level figures, not an exact 2026 trim forecast. NX source · X1 source · GV70 source.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is vehicle depreciation?

Depreciation is how much a vehicle’s value declines from its purchase price over time. Resale value is the amount it may be worth when sold or traded.

Are all resale-value percentages verified?

No. Some rates are taken from published model-family historical research. Other rates use illustrative lease-residual calculations or broad vehicle-segment benchmarks. Those are not independently verified resale forecasts for the selected trim. See the Research & Methodology section for details.

Does Lexus always depreciate less?

No. Depreciation depends on the exact model, original price, market demand, and many other factors. Compare the selected vehicle and its available research individually.

Can I compare hybrid and gasoline models?

Yes, but some research covers an entire model family rather than a specific powertrain. We identify those figures so you know their limitations.

Resale Value Research & Methodology

All results are illustrative five-year comparisons and are not appraisals or guaranteed future selling prices. Enter actual purchase prices to improve the dollar comparison. You can also edit each retention percentage.

Published vehicle research: Where available, the calculator uses historical model-level five-year retention estimates, including research from iSeeCars. Research may cover a model family rather than the selected trim or drivetrain; historical averages are not guaranteed forecasts for a newly purchased vehicle.

Modeled Lexus estimates: For certain Lexus selections, an illustrative resale estimate is calculated using a representative 60-month Lexus Financial Services lease residual percentage multiplied by 1.10 (a hypothetical 10% premium relative to the residual). Where both a published model-family research rate and this modeled estimate are available, the calculator may use the higher percentage. This approach intentionally favors Lexus and should not be taken as an objective comparative forecast. Lease residuals are contractual financing assumptions, not retail resale appraisals, and can vary by trim, term and program date.

Other manufacturers: Where supported model-family research exists, that figure is used. When unavailable, a broadly derived vehicle-segment benchmark may be used instead. A segment benchmark is not a predicted resale percentage for the specific vehicle. Competitor estimates and Lexus estimates may therefore be based on different methodologies.

Comparison limitations: Retained-value percentages are estimates of resale value as a share of purchase price; price inputs default to $50,000 purely as examples. Depreciation excludes tax, registration, finance charges, fuel, maintenance, insurance, selling costs and incentives. Results change with local market supply and demand, age, mileage, condition, service history, options and accident history. Some vehicle names and trims may differ from those studied in published research.

DEPRECIATION & RESALE VALUE DISCLAIMER

Disclaimer: This calculator is for educational comparisons only. Its five-year resale percentages combine historical third-party research with modeled assumptions or broad benchmarks and do not guarantee future vehicle values. Certain Lexus rates are selected using a higher-of-two-methods approach that may favor Lexus. Actual resale values depend on vehicle configuration, condition, mileage, market demand, incentives, accident history and other factors. No result is a firm trade-in offer, valuation or appraisal. Default purchase prices are examples only. See Resale Value Research & Methodology for source and estimation details.
