Why Compare Fuel Costs in the San Francisco Bay Area?

Whether your daily drive takes you along I-680, Highway 24, I-80 or Highway 4, the number of miles you travel and the price of fuel affect your budget. A model with higher combined MPG generally uses less gasoline over the same distance, but your actual costs depend on traffic, driving habits, fuel grade and vehicle condition.

The tool is particularly helpful when comparing conventional Lexus hybrids—such as the NX 350h or RX 350h—with gasoline or mild-hybrid luxury competitors. For example, the 2026 NX 350h AWD has an official combined rating of 39 MPG; selected 2026 BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5 and Acura RDX configurations have lower combined ratings. The calculator prefills those configurations and other competitors automatically.

Not every Lexus will have lower fuel expenses. The calculator is designed to show savings in either direction. Choose exact models and EPA figures so your comparison is fair and meaningful.

Gasoline, Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid: Know the Difference

Gasoline vehicles use an internal-combustion engine as their principal power source. Mild hybrids use electrical assistance but generally cannot drive like a conventional full hybrid on battery power alone. Full hybrids, such as the NX 350h, can use gasoline and electric motor power without being plugged in.

Plug-in hybrids, such as the NX 450h+, RX 450h+ and TX 550h+, combine gasoline operation with external charging. They are not included in this gas-only calculator because electricity prices and how often a driver charges can dramatically change the result. Purely battery-electric Lexus models, such as the RZ, are likewise excluded.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Lexus fuel savings calculator work?

Select a Lexus and comparable competitor, then adjust annual mileage and gasoline price. The tool calculates estimated annual and five-year gasoline expenses automatically.

Can I compare Lexus with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Acura?

Yes. The dropdowns also include other relevant manufacturers for eligible Lexus vehicle families, such as Genesis, Volvo, Cadillac, Infiniti, Lincoln, Land Rover and Porsche.

Are all Lexus models guaranteed to save money on gas?

No. Some competing vehicles may be more efficient. The calculator displays the estimated difference based on your chosen vehicles and input values rather than promising savings.

Can I change a prefilled MPG rating?

Yes. Both 2026 MPG figures populate automatically for the listed configurations. If you choose a different engine or drivetrain, confirm its official EPA combined MPG and edit the field before calculating.

Does a Lexus hybrid need to be plugged in?

Conventional Lexus hybrids such as the NX 350h do not need external charging. Lexus plug-in hybrids are a separate category and require charging assumptions for a complete energy-cost comparison.

Does this estimate total vehicle ownership costs?

No. The calculator estimates gasoline costs only. Purchase price, financing, insurance, maintenance, taxes, registration and depreciation are excluded.

Important information: Comparisons are for general educational use. Fuel costs are calculated from annual miles ÷ combined MPG × fuel price per gallon, with user-defined fuel price adjustments where applicable. Actual driving range, fuel usage and costs vary. Published EPA MPG ratings depend on precise year and configuration. Competitor matches are category-based suggestions, not identical vehicle specifications. Only gasoline-cost differences are shown; no electric-only models, ES models, or plug-in charging costs are included. Check FuelEconomy.gov and Lexus.com for the latest specifications.
