First Look at the All-New 2026 Lexus ES – Insights from Lexus Launch Training
The next generation of Lexus luxury is arriving soon.
Over the next several days, our team is participating in official Lexus model launch training for the completely redesigned 2026 Lexus ES. The training is taking place near Concord, California — home of Lexus of Concord — where employees are learning the newest features and technology behind the 8th generation ES.
During this training we are also reviewing how the new ES compares to key competitors such as:
- Mercedes-Benz EQE
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class
- BMW i5
- BMW 530i
- Cadillac CT5
- Tesla Model 3
With this 8th generation ES, Lexus introduces major improvements in size, technology, comfort, and electrification.
Some of these changes will definitely surprise customers.
Here are some of the highlights we’ve learned so far.
Larger Dimensions and More Presence
Compared with the previous model, the 2026 Lexus ES has grown significantly.
Key dimensional changes include:
- 6.5 inches longer than the 2025 Lexus ES
- 3 inches wider
- 4 inches taller
The result is a vehicle with more interior space, improved comfort, and a stronger road presence.
Premium Interior Materials

Some trims will feature bamboo door panel inserts, adding a natural luxury design element.
This type of material is often associated with Lexus flagship craftsmanship and highlights the brand’s focus on Takumi-inspired interior design.
Haptic Touch Controls
The new ES introduces haptic touch controls, allowing drivers to interact with buttons that provide tactile feedback.
This creates a cleaner, more modern.
Executive Package with Lounge Seating

Certain trims may offer an Executive Package designed to elevate rear-seat comfort.
Available features may include:
- Lounge-style reclining seats
- Heated rear seats
- Ventilated rear seats
- Rear seat massage functionality
These features move the ES closer to the experience of a luxury executive sedan.
Digital Key Technology

The 2026 Lexus ES will offer Digital Key capability on select trims.
Digital Key uses:
Now stored directly in your smartphone or smartwatch digital wallet instead of the Lexus App.
NFC (Near Field Communication) — the same technology used in contactless credit cards. NFC sensors are strategically placed throughout the vehicle to enable secure communication between the vehicle and your device.
UWB (Ultra Wideband) — used in modern smart keys and tracking devices. UWB sensors are strategically placed throughout the vehicle to provide precise location awareness and seamless vehicle access.
Drivers will be able to:
- Share access with up to five users
- Set activation or expiration times
- Register keys on two devices per user (phone and smartwatch)
This can be particularly useful for:
- family sharing
- valet parking
- short-term vehicle access
Built-In Drive Recorder

The 2026 ES will include an integrated Drive Recorder system.
This system can record video using the vehicle’s cameras, including the Panoramic View Monitor if equipped.
Recording options include:
- On-demand recording
- Continuous loop recording (up to 90 minutes)
Video footage can be downloaded using the vehicle’s USB-C media port.
Recording functions activate once the driver profile is registered.
Lithium-Ion Battery Technology

Electrified versions of the ES will use lithium-ion battery systems designed to maintain optimal charging performance.
Battery systems are temperature-controlled using coolant or refrigeration systems to maintain an ideal temperature range of approximately 68°F to 86°F.
This helps improve:
- charging efficiency
- battery longevity
- vehicle performance
